Frequently Asked Questions

Classy, sexy and tasteful boudoir photography
Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Townsville

Why should I choose Nikki Brown Photography?

I specialise in boudoir photography.  That means boudoir photography is all that I do (no weddings or newborns for me)!  As one of the first women to specialise in this genre in Brisbane, I have photographed women for many years and I know the clothing tips, posing and camera angles that will flatter your figure.  I believe that boudoir photography is for all women - of any shape, size or age.

As a female photographer, you can rest assured that you will feel comfortable and at ease with me photographing you, and I will provide posing guidance throughout the shoot.  My retouching skills mean that your photos will look polished and professional (no need to stress about stretch marks, cellulite and bruises) but also so that your photos still look like you.  Most importantly, my style of boudoir photography is classy, sexy and tasteful.

Where do you take the photos?

I photograph from my home studio, located in Brisbane (at Mansfield, 15 minutes south-east of Brisbane CBD and 45 minutes from the Gold Coast).  My studio has been purpose built for my boudoir photography and includes elegant furnishings such as a beautiful French Provincial bed, chandelier, occasional chair and dresser.  My studio is cooled during summer and heated during winter for your comfort.

I also photograph on location in Brisbane, Gold Coast or the Sunshine Coast - whether your home or hotel room.  As I predominantly photograph with natural light, please ensure that your chosen location has an abundance of natural light.  I can help guide you on whether your location is suitable.

I also travel to Townsville, to cater for my North Queensland clients.  I photograph at a modern hotel room.  I am next in Townsville in July 2019 and I am taking bookings now.

I am also available to travel to other destinations throughout Australia, contact me if you would like to organise a shoot.

How long is the hair and makeup and shoot?

Hair and makeup normally takes 1.5 hours.  The shoot is 2 hours. Allow 4 hours in total, so that we can also have a chat and look through your outfit choices prior to your shoot.

What is the cost?

My shoot fee is $95. This covers shoots at my Brisbane studio and Townsville shoots.

My location shoot fee is $195 for shoots at your home or hotel room throughout Brisbane, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast.

The shoot fee is all that needs to be paid prior to your shoot.

My digital image packages start at $495. My album packages start at $995.  Please contact me for my detailed package pricing.

Is makeup and hair included?

Makeup and hair is additional, as I wanted to offer those women that are comfortable doing their own makeup the opportunity to save money, instead of paying extra for something they didn't require.  However I work with some talented makeup artists, so please let me know if you require a makeup artist and I can organise one for you.  If you are shooting in my studio, they will do your hair and makeup at my studio prior to your shoot.  If you are shooting on location they will come directly to you.  They charge $140 and you pay the hair and makeup artist directly at your shoot. This cost includes glamorous makeup, false eyelashes and hairstyling (waves, hair straightening, or putting in your clip-in extensions).

Do I have to choose and pay for a photo package before my shoot, or can I wait till I see the photos?

The only payment required before your photo shoot is the shoot fee.  You wait until you view your photos before choosing a photo package.  The package payment is due one week after your shoot.

How do I view and choose my photos?

Within a week of your photo shoot I will provide a password to a private gallery on my website for you to select your images. This gallery will be online for one week only.

What is your availability?

I mainly work on weekdays, however I can do weekends on request.  Please enquire regarding my next availability, as some times of year are busier than others.

I need the photos for a special occasion (such as wedding, birthday or anniversary), how far ahead should I book?

I suggest trying to do your shoot 4 weeks prior to your occasion to allow time for the shoot, gallery to be prepared, time to choose your images, time for your photos to be retouched and your album to arrive. Digital images are ready a maximum of 2 weeks from placement of your order.  However get in touch as I will always try my best to accommodate your timeframe.

How many outfits do I bring?

Bring 4 different outfit choices to your shoot.  However, once you have paid your shoot fee and booked in your shoot time, I will provide detailed information on how to prepare for your shoot and some ideas on what to bring.

Can I choose to keep my images private?

Yes it is your decision whether your images be entirely kept for your private use only, or whether I can display the photos that keep your anonymity, or whether I can use any of your images on my website and promotional material.

I am curvy/ older / don't look like a model, do you cater for me?

Yes, definitely! Boudoir is for all women.  Due to the nature of boudoir photography many of my clients do not allow me to display their photos online, however rest assured that I have worked with all shapes and ages of women.  As a boudoir specialist I can recommend clothing to suit your shape, as well as use flattering poses and camera angles so that you receive beautiful photos.

I am unsure if I feel comfortable doing a shoot in lingerie, do you take clothed portraits too?

Yes I can definitely do beautiful photos of you in your favourite outfits/dresses.  Once you become more comfortable you may even choose to do a more covered lingerie photo (such as with a lace dressing gown, or white sheets).  However I am happy to work at your comfort level.

Do you have payment plans available?

Yes I do offer 2 month payment plans.  Please note I still require the shoot fee to be paid prior to your shoot to book in your spot.
The first payment of $200 is due one week after your shoot.  The remainder of your photo package is broken into your preferred instalments - whether weekly/fortnightly/monthly or even in one lump sum.  All payment plans must be completed within 2 months of your shoot.  You receive your retouched images once you have paid in full. If preferred, I can also offer the option of paying off some of your package prior to your shoot.
